A Quiet Campus Hero: Anthony Robledo
Along with my transition into becoming a college student, I all types of people, and even became close friends with my RA, Anthony Robledo. Robledo is a sophomore attending St. Mary’s and is majoring in business. Along with this, he is also a McNair scholar and manages his time wisely and efficiently. When I first met Anthony, I thought he was just another student and didn’t know he was an RA. Now, I know that he is much more than both of those things. While making sure Dougherty Hall is in its best shape, he also maintains his grades and puts himself out there within the community. Having to be on duty until 2am is tough, but it also gives him time to work on his studies and discuss things with the people who pass by the front desk. Anthony’s story stood out to me because I have never seen him not being productive, whether he is completing his rounds or hitting the books. Being a business major, he has to make sure his big projects are turned in and he is required to attend a lot of guest speaker events. While this takes time away from his RA duties, he still puts in the time needed to fulfill it. Not only is he a dedicated student, he is a good friend of mine. I am glad to have gotten the opportunity to do this project on him and let people know about this ‘not so’ quiet campus hero.
Media Production I: Clearing a Career Path
As I enter this first semester, I anticipate the opportunities given in this class. I am passionate about writing, therefore I am excited to be able to better my skills. Some aspects that I find most exciting about this course is the professor, the work assigned, and experience I’m able to gain. Since I enjoy writing, I am intrigued by the work we will be completing along with other things I have yet to experience. I also enjoy building websites and holding interviews, which is something I am familiar with. Some challenges I anticipate this semester would have to be working with softwares I’m not familiar with, such as photoshop or websites in general. I plan to overcome this by watching How To videos and seeking help if needed from my classmates or professor. This course relates to my intended career because it is one of the communication classes needed to fulfill my major. From here I am able to experience more of the work I would be doing in my field as a communication arts major. When this semester is done, I hope to have exceeded what I set for myself in the beginning and dedicated my time to my studies.

About Maisie Rae Favila
Maisie Rae Favila is an eighteen-year-old freshman student currently attending St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX, majoring in English Communication Arts. Throughout high-school, Maisie’s passion sparked for writing when joining the school paper. After holding the position as Editor-In-Chief for 3 years, she was sure that she wanted to pursue a career within the writing area. Born and raised in a fairly small city known as Harlingen, TX, she was also determined to further her education somewhere else, eventually choosing San Antonio. As someone familiar with using editing softwares such as premiere pro and working with cameras, she was excited to be joining Media Production 1. Although she is grateful to be here in a new city, she hopes to extend her career somewhere else hopefully outside of Texas. Maisie is currently passionate for broadcast journalism but also has her heart set on music journalism. She also hopes to write a book along the way and become somewhat known as a writer. Having a father who is a sports writer for the newspaper, this also elevated her career path choice even more. Because of that, she is able to write in proper newspaper article format and hold professional interviews. In the end, Maisie hopes to find a good job within the arts she is interested in and continue to learn more everyday about the writing process as a whole.
